Ancient Roman dog names
A friend sent this to me, and I thought I would share it here! A list of some names ancient Romans liked to give their dogs. :) http://www.unrv.com/culture/names-for-roman-dogs.phpI liked: Aëllo, Asbolos, Harpalos, Issa, Labros, Lupa, Lydia, Margarita, Oribasos, and Perseus.

That's really interesting!I always thought Lupa/Lupo was a good name for a dog. Theron, Asbolos, Pyrrhus, Aëllo I like.Ichnobates and Oresitrophos might be a bit much for a dog to recognise, though!

Interesting! Lydia and Margarita are names I wouldn't use for pets because they're too "human".

I like Aëllo and it has a very cool meaning too. I wouldn't name a dog it, it's a little bit pretentious in the wrong way, but I would get a kick out of seeing someone else's puppy with this name.
Asbolos has a nice meaning for a dark-haired brown/black dog, but I don't like the sound.
Celer... speedy... heh! Again, like the meaning, not the sound.
Cyprius is...kinda cool. It's a bit cold, though.
Ferox is all kinds of edgy and fun. The meaning 'savage', though, is the last thing I'd want in my pet dog. Who wants a savage dog? Then again, it might work in the same way it's funny to have a big soft lump of a dog called Ripper. Maybe.
Issa. Kind of cute. I think it's very much a 'little dog' name.
Lachne. Ugly, but could become cute. It has a kind of ring to it, for all that it looks so ugly on paper.
Lupa. It does sound like a bit of a slur, though.
Lydia. It's so much a people-name that I can't identify with its wild roots. I think it's more of a cat name, but it'd be lovely on a pup too.
Margarita. Although a bit OTT these days...
Perseus. Awesome.
Pyrrhus. Maybe, or maybe not. Not decided on this one.
Theron. Hell yes. It's a great name for a dog. I've always gotten a canine vibe and wet-dog feel from this name.
Tigris - more of a cat name for me, but it would be nice on a dog too.
