Message: "Betrys (f)" - Behind the Name

This name has been floating around in my head for a couple weeks now. I want to pronounce it so it rhymes with 'tetris', although the real pronunciation is BET-rees. So I have a couple questions:

1) What do you think of Betrys pronounced as BEH-tris? Do you prefer BET-rees?

2) Would giving this name to a child and purposely pronouncing it wrong make me annoying?*

*ETA: I've just been informed by Pie that BEH-tris is actually a legitimate pronunciation. So, what do you think of the name in general?

I want to like it because im always on the lookout for names that could be shortened to Betsy- but unfortunately all I can think of when hearing Betrys is "buttress"

Glad about that - I'd always heard it as BETris. BETrees sounds as if it was falling flat on its face in a vain attempt to seem French.

I think that, if Beatrice wasn't a family name going back generations, I'd prefer Betrys. Neat and tidy and quirky, and couldn't shorten to the dreaded Beattie.

BET-rees does sound very unnatural, especially in my English Canadian accent. Sounds a little pretentious.

I never considered the nn Beattie in all my years of liking Beatrice…that's awful. I don't know how I feel about Betrys potentially being shortened to Betty.

I had a distant aunt who was always known as Beattie; I think it's a UK peculiarity. But it is very dreadful. My Beatrice daughter goes by Bea very happily. I asked her if anyone ever called her Honey, and she smiled menacingly and said "It has been tried occasionally, but never twice by the same person".

My inclination has always been to pronounce Betrys to rhyme with 'tetris'. I don't feel like that will be an issue at all.

I like it. I think it's classic but quirky with a bit of a modern twist.

I agree about it having a quirky/modern twist. I've always liked Beatrice, but there was always something a little too classic about it for me. I didn't like the harsh 'trix' in Beatrix. Beatrice + Beatrix = Betrys? haha

I'm Welsh and I'd pronounce it to rhyme with tetris - more or less, I roll my 'r's.
The end is like Carys, which you can hear here pronounced by a Welsh person:
