Re: Tacky.

I didn't mean to come across as aggressive or rude.. but its just one of my real pet hates.. every time I meet someone and I say i'm a musician and somones like oh I love music so much I named my daughter "Melodee" (true story) or some other musical term, it drives me nuts because they don't know what these terms mean (for the most part). I guess it would be the same as people using historical names without knowing the stories/characters etc. and i'm sure it would piss historians off.

That makes sense. I'm sorry I essentially called you out on it. I think I get a little defensive on behalf of others because I like some really unusual names. I've gotten a lot of slack for over the years, even though I've done my best to be open-minded about other people's choices. Sorry about being a little bit of a jerk. Everyone has their own opinions and you have every right to express yours. I have naming pet peeves too, so I should be far more understanding :)
There are some gorgeous music related names out there. I think it just depends on the person for preference,... and the same can be said for any other associated name list-ideal. :D I don't know enough about History to say anything about names to avoid, beyond ones like Adolf, Caligula, Brutus, etc.
I must say that I personally cringe when I hear about people naming their babies Renesme after that Twilight baby and it took me a long time to come to terms with the name Astrid. I've read "Blood and Chocolate" by Annette Curtis Klause cover-to-cover at least five times, maybe more. I also pick it up and read my favorite scenes. Astrid is an awful person in those books. It completely spoiled the name for me. Similarly, I still hate the names Estelle, Estella, and Stella because of Dickens' "Great Expectations".
O.O Now that I've ranted ... oops ... I'm just saying that I get it.

I love Estella for the same reason you dislike it. Great Expectations is one of my favourite books and I love Estella despite her personality throughout most of the book.

I can't stand her. She upset me so much when I was reading that book.
:D That was kind of the point was making though. It's all about perception of the name. You love the name Estella and I hate it, both of our opinions are based on the same book. Everyone likes or dislikes names, it's all subjective. I can't say Great Expectations is one of my favorites. I really enjoyed it. I want to read it again but it's not exactly a favorite for me. What makes it one of your favorites? What makes you love the name Estella despite the character's personality? I would really love to know. ^.^
