Modern names that you like?
Most modern names get a bad wrap such as Paisley, braxton, Bentley, Brooklyn just to name a few. I'm not crazy for those names one bit (if you like them, sorry)
But are there ones you find more respected and ones you actually like? The ones I can think off the bat that I like are Aaralyn and Aven
Boys: unsure at the moment
New names that barely have any history or any at all

I actually like Bentley, because it always reminds be of the character from Bachelor Father and so doesn't seem "modern" to me. I don't like it enough to actually use, however.I have something of a soft spot for Harlow / Harlowe. I can't say that I really like it, but I think it's okay.

Since I'm not living in the U.K. or America, I'm not sure exactly what names are considered modern (outside Sweden), but I'll give it a go. I like:Adastra
Bentony
Burgundy
Cadenza
Caledonia (I know it's old, but not as a name for a person)
Cinnamon
Coraline
December
Indigo
January
Jonquil (?)
Juniper (?)
November Snow
Oktyabrina
Peace
Prairie
Quintessence
Renaissance
Reverie
Saffron (?)
Serendipity
Spring
Vienne
Winter
YvaineStrangely enough, I kind of like Marlowe and Troy for girls (but I can't stand Troy on a boy!)

I actually quite like surnames and occupations as first names. Emerson, Mackenzie, Bailey, Reagan, Kennedy, Foster, Deacon, stuff like that. Especially on girls. If I had any worthwhile surnames in my own family, I'd use them. I also don't mind place names. I just get a bit bored of the ones you usually see. I enjoy a quirky place name. I'd like to meet a Holland. But such names do have some history (like did you know Florence Nightingale and her sister Parthenope were named after their birthplaces?), so maybe they don't count.I really like the name Chance.

I am on the fence about Kaden. I think that if it wasn't trendy, I would love it for the sound. I especially appreciate Caden. However, there are just sooo many little boys with that name that I could never use it IRL. And... I will never get behind some of the spellings (Kaidyn, Caydin, Kaeden, etc).

I love Sienna and Romilly, and I like Ever for both genders. There are also some names I like that have a history, but also have a modern usage that diverges from tradition, like Avery and Aubrey on girls or surnames like Archer, Shepherd, and Bennett used as first names.

That's hard. It's hard to think of names that actually really count as modern and history-less. Uhm.Well, I really like both Skylar and Kylar. I love the sounds of them. Though I actually like Skye (not modern because of the island) and Kai even more ;)Coraline: I love that, and it's new. Created by Neil Gaiman in his book "Coraline"Then there're new word names... I mean word names that (as far as I know) don't have a long history. I like Falcon and Indigo, and Ember is a g.p for me.
I have a nephew named Moss, does that count as modern? Not food names! I don't think foods (Apple, Cinnamon, etc) make good names in English. Saffron just gets away with it cos it's a colour too. Oh, and I also exempt Honey ^_^ I adore January for a boy. It's top of my g.p list.
Fox, as a boy's middle name. Conrad Fox or something. He couldn't help but be cool :DAnd that's all I can think of.Edit: And Locke! I've no idea if that has history or not, but it's awesome xD

I admit I do find Talon for a boy attractive, because it means eagle claw. I would never use it.For girls... well.maybe Nevaeh ;)
vote up1
Ah, Neveah gets such a bad wrap. Sooooo many people have such a hate on for that name so for one to use it on an actual child, would have to be brave almost. Talon is cool (:

Actually, I think only us name-nerds really dislike it enough to be vocal about it. There are so many Nevaehs in my town right now that there were lots of brave parents I guess, but I have no love for the name at all. Egh.

Nah, a lot of people think it's dumb. I talked to people at the height of its popularity and at least around me, the general consensus is that it's silly

Nevaeh is just plain silly.

I hate names with no history or tradition, and names that are just sounds with no real meaning, as well as all the -son and Mc- names for girls. The modern names I do have some respect for have been around for a while, and have definite meanings:Amber
Brianna (if taken as a feminisation of Brian)
Bryony
SaffronAlso this smoosh name:
Annabeth

I like all your girl names... but haven't seriously considered them for one reason or another. Too bad Amber was so trendy 20 years ago. It's quite pretty if you think about it.
