Re: Names for an Empress
Historically, there have been numerous Empresses including Catherine the Great (Empress of Russia), Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom (Empress of India), Holy Roman Empress Maria Theresa Hapsburg, Empress Theodora of the Byzantine Empire, Empress Wu Zetian of China, Empress Dowager Cixi or Tzu-hsi of China, etc...Some traits that these Empresses's names have in common.1. Many of their names are traditional in their perspective cultures and have a famous association with qualities attached that the Empress or her family may want affiliated with her. For instance, Empress Maria Theresa's name Maria brings to mind Mary, who for Roman Catholics was the center of adoration. For Victoria having a name that implies victory could be a valuable asset in framing how people think about her. 2. Typically, Empresses have names that serve to honor ancestors and godparents and also to remind people of a powerful lineage for instance Flavia Julia Constantina (Empress of Rome) was the daughter of Emperor Constantine I, her grandfather Flavius Valerius Constantius served as Caesar in the west, and Julia could have been honoring any number of powerful Julius and Julians. Simply be looking at her name you can see that she has a relationship with these powerful people. 3. In an attempt to honor as many people as possible and perhaps garner their favor, many empresses have ridiculously long names for instance Maria Theresa's full name was Maria Theresa Walburga Amalia Christina of the House of Hapsburg. 4. There are exceptions to the above. How a woman became empress may effect the name she bears although often even those who started out as concubines actually came from powerful families like Empress Dowager Cixi who was from the Yehenara clan. Possible Empress names: Alexandra, Irene, Anna, Helena, Maria, Isabella, Gloriana, Eleanor, Sophia, Evangelina, Xanthia, Hera, Beatrice, Yolanda, Regina, Augustina, Nicaula, Maqueda, Justinia, Titiana, Athena, Matilda, Wakanda.

Being that History and Ancient History is my field of study I do understand how and why monarchs throughout history choose the moniker that they are know by today. I was looking more for a fantasy character name, But I do thank you for your suggestions.
