My daughter is Beatrice Elizabeth Anne. Beatrice for numerous relatives, most importantly my late mother and grandmother; Elizabeth for her step-grandmother; Anne for my other grandmother and me. Although all these are family names, we wouldn't have used them if we hadn't liked them; we didn't use Bertha, Molly, Nellie or Sarah, for instance!

She goes happily by Bea (pronounced Bee, not Bee-a) or Beatrice. Occasionally she gets Triskie, and she's had a couple of would-be boyfriends call her Honey, but they haven't lasted above five minutes. Her only grudge is the Dutch royal family - people often assume that her name is "really" Beatrix and have to be explained to. But in a country without historical links to the Netherlands, it shouldn't matter.
