Violet and Elliot too similar?
Completely separate names of course but given the fact that they both and with that "Et" sound, are they mega cheesy for a boyfriend\girlfriend relationship?
I mean Elliot doesn't even go by his actual name (goes by his middle mostly)
I changed Elliot to Isaac at one point but now I'm thinking about changing it back. Although I prefer the name Isaac more, the name Elliot fits the character WAY more. When I hear or see the name, I can't help for some unknown reason, picture it on a type of guy who is mainly humorous and is an all around lovably dork. (Caucassion decent with light features) That explains this character PERFECTLY. (:
Are Elliot and Violet OK to use? (Or would it not even matter considering that Elliot mainly goes by his middle name?)I never considered about changing Violet's name. Her name fits her well also but if I ever did, it would HAVE to be a nature-inspired name. Or at least something soft, feminine and classicAnd on an sort of separate note (This question can easily go in the same post) would it be cheesy to have 3 people who are not only an only child but who also don't have any middle names?
Two of my characters who don't have any siblings or a middle name are Daniel and Cole.
Now I have this other character named Nia. I gave her the middle name Louise simply because couldn't find anything else that flowed. Louise is fine but never a name that captured my attention. I'm thinking about dropping the middle name all together. So it would be just Cole, Daniel and Nia and their surnames. But they are all an only child as well.
Should it not matter? The reason why I'm a bit apprehensive is for that fact that most people have a middle name and at least one other sibling.

Nia Caitlin's my pick if you're still looking for a middle name for Nia. (Nia Caitlin is my name.) And if you want a sibset, I'd go Elin and Tom, haha!

I don't think Violet and Elliot are too similar, especially as you intend him going by his middle name. If it was my work of fiction, though, I'd try to avoid two T endings, and I'd like at least one name that I chose to be rather out of the ordinary.
Regarding being an only child, it's not anomalous in certain demographics, such as the children of older parents, of widowed mothers, of divorced parents, of parents whose married lives were interrupted by lengthy wars or other strife.
I don't think it would be "cheesy" for the three onlies to have only one name each - just coincidence. (I feel sorry for their mothers, though, getting to name a baby only once, and plumping for just one name!)

I think Elliot and Violet sound really good together. They sound a bit more like siblings to me, but it's not cheesy for bf/gf characters. I like the name Elliot much more than Isaac. Violet is a beautiful name. For the other question, I wouldn't describe it as 'cheesy' to have three middle name-less only children. It seems fine, just coincidental. Having a middle name doesn't correlate with having siblings, after all. It doesn't really need any attention brought to it. Loads of people don't have middle names, and loads of people are only children.

Alright thank you (:And I suppose I must of had a brain fart (don't know what I was so worried about) It completely slipped my mind that I have this other character who has a middle name and she's an only child as well. So having 3 other middlenameless and only child characters shouldn't be an issue.
I do prefer the name Isaac more but without a doubt, Elliot fits the character more

I think you can keep both names. Things like that happen in real life; it's not unrealistic. There are couples who are Chris and Chris, or Robert and Robyn, etc.(What's unrealistic is, if her name is Violet and she lives in the present day US and is over the age of about 15. Violet on a young adult would be remarkable since it was still very rare in the 90s, and the fact that it's a popular-ish name now makes it seem fake. Iris or Rose would be - slightly - more probable than Violet.)It's not cheesy to have 3 only children, especially if at least a couple of them come from the sort of families that typically would have only one child (in the US, the stereotype is well-educated, older, white, urban parents with good incomes). What's cheesy is the reader finding out whether or not all 3 of them have middle names. Or even finding out that they don't have siblings, unless that impacts the story. It's too much detail. Just don't mention details like that, unless the story provides a convincing reason to tell them. If you don't have a reason to tell details, then it doesn't matter if there's too much coincidence in them. It'll just be between you and your characters, and you don't mind! You could also mention the middle name of Nia if there were a reason to, and just never mention about the others.

Gotcha. The middle names of major characters are unimportant (I'm essentially just a fan of names and feel that having a full name would cause the characters to feel more real to me. Shape them more into reality in a sense) the middles names aren't exactly written into the story, unless you count reading a scene where their names are in list form (as their manifest) and a bit while later, the other characters mocking another characters middle name. A very small amount.
Cole, Daniel and Nia being an only child would be that I just simply won't ever mention a sibling of theirs. Not them describing being an only child. I feel I shouldn't create more characters than I have to. One too many characters makes it hard to juggle and keep track.
Those 3 characters are siblingless for a reason. Not exactly the stereotypes you mentioned.
Nia: Dad walked out which was never mentioned in the story or at least not yet and her mother simply never had another child
Daniel: Mother died shortly after giving birth to him. His father simply never had another child with another woman. Involved with them, sure. But never impregnated another one.
Cole: Father's an violent alcoholic. His mother's dead but never mentioned into the story.
As for the middle names, I couldn't find anything that went with Cole or Daniel (including their surnames) so I just said, "ah, screw it. Not everyone needs a middle. Makes the story seem more realistic" and i'm definitely just going to drop Nia's middle name completely. The less names mentioned the better.
And I wasn't aware at the fact that Violet is rare on a youth today. (The story takes place in modern day USA) I went to school with a Violet and the name just seems like one of those classic and timeless types of names. Very usuable on all ages. May not be overly popular as other names but not completely unheard of on a younger person today. May just be my personal expirenced
Sorry for all the writing. Thanks for your input!
