Friend's new baby
A high School friend of mine just had a baby girl named Katana. I'm not sure I like the name.
What does everyone else think of the name?PNL: http://www.behindthename.com/pnl/126941

Makes me think of the character from Mortal Kombat.I had an acting teacher with a daughter named Katana. It's nice to see...I don't hate it but I wouldn't use it.

The sound is cool, but the meaning isn't great.

I like the sound and spelling, and didn't immediately make the connotation. I guess it's OK, but it's certainly a bold choice! I'd like to bear the name, but I wouldn't wish it on someone else.

I grew up with a friend named Katana. It's not my style, but it sounds badass all the same.
I mean, it takes a lot of guts to name your kid after a sword. But I imagine it's not a fun name to have. *shrug*

Is it bad that I kind of dig it?

It's not bad, just your opinion. Personally I like the sound of it, but I guess it's a bad connotation. I like it.

Hate it! I am sure your friend is a great person, but this is just bad.

I agree that this is a bad name to name someone.

At least it's not Katakana?

That's true.

Ojej.Like, it's fine for a DC superhero, but way too over the top edgy for a real girl. Poor kid. At least she can go by Kat and most will assume it's just short for Katherine or something. (you can totally give them those nifty katana bookends as a present, though)Do you know if she has a middle name?

I don't know if she has a middle name. :(

Oh dear...

That was my first thought when I heard the name.

Yep, I can't really think of much else to say about this "name". Maybe they'll call her Katie and no one ever has to know.

Katie or Kat work well as nicknames. Most people will think her name is Katherine, Kathleen, or Kaitlin.

I don't mind it. I like the sound.

The sound is okay, but I just can't get past the the fact that katana is a sword.

Katana!? That's a SWORD, for God's sake!
