Landry-Boy or Girl?
I had chosen the name Landry Donovan as a boys name. I prefer it as a boys name, but I have noticed that a lot of girls are now receiving the name Landry. It is making me reconsider the name. What do you think of the name Landry--boy or girl?

I'm inclined to say boy. It does strike me as fitting in with a lot of the surnames on girls you see used regularly. If you love it for a boy, I say go for it. It isn't my style, but it does sound nice with Donovan.

A girl I went to high school with has a daughter named Landry Star.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Donovan "Donnie" but "Landry" honestly just sounds like someone saying "Laundry" in some accent or in a weird way. I would replace Landry entirely
Maybe Lysander Donovan? Something

I don't know of any boys or girls named Landry, so you're probably good there. I would think of it as a boys names myself. It reminds me of Leland which I love :) Good luck!

If I saw the name Landry I would assume it was a girl because there are so many girls given surnames as first names, but I would cringe and hope it was a boy because it's more palatable that way.

I think typo for the room where you wash your clothes, sorry! If I saw it in the context of a name, I'd think boy.

I'd think boy. As a girl name it would just seem faddish. This happened to my son's name which is a classic boy name and has a legit feminine form- years ago there was a fad, to make it a feminine name. Today it is still mainly male. I'm not sure that'd go for Landry though, since it's such a rare name to begin with. I believe it seems masculine enough that if it were my favorite I wouldn't avoid it for a boy. But if you really don't want anything even remotely unisex, it's already out.Have you considered Landric. Could be called Landry.

I'm surprise, I hadn't realized Landry was being used as a first name. Where I live, it's a sur-name, quite a common one. I suppose I'd say it was a boy name.

I guess I like it better for a boy but honestly it just makes me think of "laundry".

If I saw or heard the name Landry, I would immediately assume the bearer was male.

QuoteIt is making me reconsider the name.
Why? What's wrong with a boy having a girly name when girls can have boyish names? Also, could you define "a lot"? Because: http://www.behindthename.com/top/name/landry

I don't like names that go for both girls and boys. I don't want my son to have a name that a bunch of girls have. It looks like in the social security name list that Landry is beginning to rise for girls names. Usually once that happens the girls take over the name and the boys diminish for the name. It is just my opinion (and my husbands opinion).

I mean, as long as you think the same way about boys' names on girls... And in any case, it's still absurdly unpopular on either gender, but more popular on boys'. I'm not seeing a reason for you to worry.
