Everly -Pretty or Dumb?
I'm on the fence about Everly. I want to like it because I think it's pretty but I also find it really trendy, which makes a name a bit dumb to me. What are your thoughts?

I like it, to my own surprise. haha

I'm not a fan. It's just kind of there and doesn't seem to have much personality to me. I think a lot of people would ask if it were short for Beverly.

It's dumb IMO. I consider myself moderately open to flaky names created just for the sound, but this one is not just about the sound - it's surnamey and a nonsensical word, "ever" + "-ly" which would mean something like ... "in an always manner" and that crosses the line into distractingly twee and artificial. Is it supposed to be poetic? Let's coin some similar "names" ... how about Veryish, or Elsemence, or Happenful, or Dreamity? hah. Anyway the sound is trendy enough that it'll almost certainly become like Amberly within a few decades... flimsy and a bit ugly.Oh and there's this http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1945084/

I tend to agree that it's trendy and silly sounding. If I saw it on a little girl, I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest -- but I'd also think "Grr, what did her parents have against Evelyn?!"It's not really fair of me to think that though, since Beverly is essentially the same thing. To each his own, but to me Everly just sounds frilly for the sake of frill.

It's pretty dumb. Plus the only one I've ever heard of is a boy, Everly Bear, the son of Anthony Kiedis from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

BothI think it is very pretty, but it also sounds like a name that is overly contrived to be pretty... therefore making it seem a bit shallow, which I know can seem dumb to a lot of us here.I think it sounds saccharine, eye-roll inducing.

I do not think its dumb. I like names like Everly and Evelyn. Also though it as become more popular I do not think it makes the name less appealing

Both? I can see the appeal of it, along with other 'Ev-' names.

Looks like a trendy mashup of Evelyn and Beverly, without the oomph of either; is a surname associated mainly with two male singers, so doesn't seem particularly feminine; is close enough to Emily to be easily mistaken for it, but isn't anywhere near as nice. Thumbs down.

I don't like it. I mean, I don't hate it and it does sound pretty, but I just don't see much to like about it beyond that. It basically falls just barely below neutral for me. I don't exactly dislike it. I guess, like you, I'm on the fence. It sort of makes me think of Everclear (which is apparently both an alternative rock band and an alcoholic beverage) and Everlark which is a "ship" name for Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark from The Hunger Games books and movies.

I don't really like it. It looks wrong, but when I spell it Everley, that looks wrong too. It does sound quite pretty, but that's about all it has going for it.
