Re: Vintage American Names
My favorites are Ramona and Roscoe. I don't have much against Archie, Belle, Etta, or Nellie either; they're just nms.
Goldie - I think of Golden retrievers, Goldie Hawn, Goldman Sachs, and then Goldilocks and the Three BearsGrover - I think of the muppet character on Sesame St., Grover Cleveland, and Red RoverHomer - too closely tied to the idiotic yellow cartoon character, but I also think of Winslow Homer (which is a positive)Ida - this reminds me of bluegrass for some reason (maybe esp. Ida Mae...)Lula - I think I've seen this used somewhere for a ditzy, unintelligent character, because that's the only impression I have of it...Mamie - I hate itMyrtle - I like it, but I think "moaning myrtle" because of Harry PotterOpal - I don't particularly like the sound (and weirdly I think of 'offal' instead of the gemstone when I hear this)

Tillie - I sort of like it because Mathilde is one of my favorites and I like the band Tilly and The Walls, but I can't get over the fact that it rhymes with sillyWiley - Wile E. Coyote could never do anything rightWoodrow - I just can't imagine calling a child this
