My guess would just be the Disney influence (not that it hasn't been around for years as that, but maybe through social media it's more en vogue now?) and that nature type names are becoming more mainstream as well.

I have no information regarding the source, but I like it for a boy and I get why someone would for a girl. I'd rather it than many of the recent creations that chart high.

Hayden Christensen and Rachel Bilson had a daughter named Briar Rose in 2014 or 2015. Not sure if that had anything to do with it.

I know Hayden Christensen and Rachel Bilson had a daughter, Briar Rose, in Fall 2014. And, apparently, that's Sleeping Beauty's real name. But there may be other influences.
