I think if it's pronounced Nay-o, then it would not be too tied to the Keanu Reeves character!
I don't even think NEE-o would be that tied to it. It's usable. So surely Nay-o is.
I think it's nicer with a full form, but doesn't need it.
I think the full name Neophytos (while cool) isn't too appealing in English, at least not where I live, because of the English word neophyte which now means a novice, newcomer, someone inexperienced (implying, someone lacking knowledge or competence in some area).
The form Neófito would not have that problem.
