Re: Can anybody help with female name Finetta
From a 'net search I did, the name "Finetta" appears to have been well-known in previous centuries, and I even found two references to the name being used as a substitution for the name "Cinderella" -- one in a pantomime play and the other in a Scottish fairy tale.I'm going to take a guess as to the meaning of your name, and say it was formed from the Latin word "finis", meaning "the end, the finish".I'm guessing this because of the Cinderella connection. If you'll recall the story of Cinderella, she was the last (and only) child born to her parents, before her mother died and her father remarried the wicked stepmother. Centuries ago, it was not unusual for a woman to die in childbirth, and often when a parent died around the birth of a child, the sad event was memorialized in the name given to the child. In ancient Rome, for example, the name "Postumus" was frequently given to boy children born after the death of their father.Maybe someone else here will have some other ideas regarding your name.-- Nanaea
