The surnames Gable, Gable, Gabl, and Gaebel can mean any of these:1) One who made and sold agricultural implements, such as pitchforks.2) Dweller by a fork inthe road.3) One who came from Gabel (fork), in Germany.4) Descendant of little Gabe, a pet form of Gabriel (strong man of God).According to another source, Gable is an English name of uncertain origin, perhaps a habitation name from one of the minor places named with Old Norse "gafl" (gable) applied to a triangular-shaped hill. the mountain called Great Gable in Cumberland is named in this way.-- Nanaea
