Re: Welcome back, Andrea! ...
Hey Gaia, we are being offered a Persian kitten. I never had a cat, being more of a doggy-dog person. Are Persians good with children? Is their character cool? Your insight would be much appreciated!

Well, they are like almost any cat, except they are a bit more tolerant of some shenanigans. One thing that you must be careful of is tear-staining on the face (besides the tangling/matting that Andrea had already mentioned. If you'd like, I'll try to get the on-line Cat Fancy magazine's address (if you e-mail me again, I'll send the addie to you directly.) They have listings for reputable cat breeding clubs and federations that may have representatives "near" you. :) They (the reputable breeders) will be more than happy to answer any reasonable questions (like Davidh, Nanaea and you concerning questions on this board. :D)Phyllis (aka Sidhe Uaine or Gaia Euphoria)

Thanks for the advice, Gaia 'n' Andrea :)
We test-drove little kitty for an afternoon, to see how she would interact with Nephele. I'm afraid things didnt quite work out: Nephele (23 months old) couldnt disinguish the cat from her inanimate friends, and playfully pulled her ears and poked at her eyes. So I guess it will be another year of two before we can safely host a living feline!

Oh, Greek one! :)The web address for CAT FANCY is http://www.catfancy.com . You don't have to have a member of the feline race in your household to peruse the e-magazine, and it may be helpful in the future if you do decide to try again (after your disciple of Eris grows up a little.)I think this current issue talks about flea and tick control (might have been last issue ) and I'm not exactly sure what the flea/tick situations are in your part of the world. They also have links to various breeders and, on occassion, your "average" Heinz 57 (feline for mutt.)Phyllis (aka Sidhe Uaine or Gaia Euphoria)

I enjoyed your site, it has a great database with cat breeds! The latest antic of my Eris disciple is to run after pigeons in a park shouting "kill, kill". Extremely weird, I cant fathom where she picked this word up!

Persians are fine. Low energy, aloof, high-maintenance. You have to brush and detangle their undercoat every day. If it goes neglected, it can develop serious knots which may need to be surgically removed.(I have a Birman. The long-haired beauty of a Persian, without the thick undercoat.)Andrea
