Irex americanus was an old generic name applied to fish of the Carandidae family, specifically the Amberfish or Blue Runnerbut the scienticic name was abounded in the 1860's and replaced with Elagatis bipinnulatus. Latin yes but as first name, it would seem unlikely, don't you think? a Boat or road name maybe? "Bagpus"
