Usage of Cruz
I see that Cruz is listed as a female name. However, I've known a few male Cruzes in North America (and no girls). Is usage different here than in Spain?

David Beckham, football (soccer) captain of England, and his slightly singing wife Victoria have just named their third son Cruz, and ran into flak on UK sites for using a female name ... some enterprising journalists actually asked some real, live Spanish people, all of whom connected it with girls though they also said it was pretty unusual. In Latin, the word 'crux' is feminine. I assume therefore that the same applies in Spanish, and there are names like De La Cruz to bear this out.As for why males get named Cruz in spite of all this - your guess is as good as mine, but my guess would be a mixture of ignorance and the current fashion for using surnames as given names, regardless of the gender of the baby. And then there's pronunciation ...I wouldn't have named my child Cruz,
Because I know the truz!
