I need your opinion on my name
I'm a Chinese girl and now studying English and French at University.I'd like to name myself "Carmen" which seems to be a latin one. I do like it. My English teacher from Australia thinks it to be a lovely one. But it's the name of main character in Bizer's opara "Carmen". To be honest, Carmen is considered to be a dissolute, frivolous and capricious,in a word, extremely bad girl by most Chinese probably for the reorganized translation. So some classmates and friends like to laugh at me.I do need your suggestions! What do you think of it? Is it too bad? Many thanks!
Cheers!

Hi Carmen,Most native English speakers (the people with whom you'd use this name, presumably) don't know squat about "Carmen" except that she was some character they're unfamiliar with in an opera whose libretto they don't know by a composer they can't remember. Americans especially are ignorant of opera, and I don't suppose most Aussies are much better. So what I'm saying is, use the name if you like it! It's a pretty name and you should get no teasing from gwai loh (is that term even used anymore?)..Best regards,Daividh

Carmen is a beautful name!!
I know 3 girls who have got this name, they are all very happy about their names, and here (in Germany) nobody ever laughed about the name. Nearly everybody thinks it´s a beautiful name. But of course I don't know, what your classmates think about the name.
