For Jews, the order of the names have no importance, so Menachem Mendel could write his name as "Mendel Menachem", but not voluntarily to use his mn first...

Miss Claire, I've noticed that my Jewish friends seem to give mns to their daughters but not their sons. Is this just something that happens in South Africa, or is it more widespread? If anyone knows, it'll be you for sure! In your example, for instance, is Mendel what I would think of as a surname, or is it his mn?
