Tatiana
Hi my name is Tania, I was told by a Russian friend a while ago that even though that is my name on my birth certificate, I could still technically go by Tatiana because Tania is a form of it...is that true? I have been using the name and the nickname Tia as my stage name for a while now. I know Tania is a nickname of Tatiana, but can it be used the other way around? TIA.

Of course you can use Tatiana as a nn for Tania, even if it is technically the other way around.A nn does not _have_ to be a short form of the name. Think of Johnny for John and Gracie for Grace. Or Rosalita as a nn for Rosa.

Well, Tania is a pet form of Tatiana as you said, and technically, you're free to do as you like. If you're asking whether there's historical precedent to being Tania and calling yourself Tatiana, I'm doubting there's any significant number of people calling themselves that way. However, there's nothing to stop you, so if it makes you happy, have at. (I know a female Ashley called Bob, after all, and a Madeline sometimes called Reid. You could start going by Azerbaijan if you wanted; the Name Police won't stop you, hee.)Array
