I thought the name might be French, but no luck there. The Net did show it as a surname most frequently, and one site indicated it was the 36,023rd most common surname in the US.
Several sites proved its use as a first name, without any explanation of meaning. Interestingly, a genealogy site contained a gentleman named Curvin Dick, who may likely have been one of the most awesome playground fighters in history... :)
