My Mother in law's middle name is Iberia. Can anyone tell me anything about this name. She is from North Carolina. I know her maiden name is a name from England is all i know. "Dobyn" Thanks, Joyce

The peninsula Iberia was named after the river Iberus (today Ebro), but I don't know the meaning of Iberus. It's a Latin name.

As Anneza pointed out, the "Iberian peninsula" comprises Spain and Portugal .
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, "Iberia" is derived from the Greek "Beres," namely the Spaniards, but also an Asiatic people near the Caucasus in modern Georgia.

She got a geographical name - long before most people! I don't know what goes on in the Carolinas, but the Iberian Peninsula is the one that Spain and Portugal are on.
