As for the meaning of NISAN (which is indeed the first month in the old Jewish calendar, and the 7th month of the new one),
althought it's similar to NES, which means miracle, I found that the word comes from the Assyrian name NISU, and was changed to NISAN because it's close to NITSAN - meanning bud/beginning.
