Is this name just an elaboration of Rafe (RAYF)? If it's not an elaboration, where did it come from?

Is it pronounced RAYF-fer-tee or RAF-fer-tee? in English.

Also what culture pronounces the name Rafe RAF-A? and what culture pronounces the name RAF-ee?

My Maiden name is Rafferty, it's a good Irish name, means prosperous. I'm planning to name my daughter Rafferty as well. Pronounced RAF-er-Tee.

the name originated in Ireland as a surname and is pronounced
RAFF-ER-TY. it originated in Co. Donegal and is a popular surname around the northern counties.

Hi Sefera! That's such a pretty name, is it your real name? :o) Anyway, I think Rafferty is pronounced RAF-er-tee. I know a cockatiel named Rafferty! LOL I mention that only because it's the only time I've heard the name, and my little night owl cockatiel is running around on the computer desk chewing on things right now. Anyway, sorry I can't help you with Rafe....

I have only ever seen this name used as a surname in the book "Divine Evil" by Nora Roberts- EXCELLENT book, by the way, definitely worth reading- and it was pronounced RAF-fer-tee.
