Re: Davney
in reply to a message by Anne
"Davney" is a variant of "Dabney", a name derived from the surname "Daubeney". Of English/Norman origin, the name means "from" (due to the "de" fused into the name) any of the various places in Northern France bearing the Gallo-Roman personal name of "Albinius" (which means "white"). (ref. Hanks & Hodges)So, in essence, the name of "Davney", when given to a girl might signify whiteness and all the symbolism associated with that color. Although the name is obviously derived from a habitation.-- Nanaea
P.S. I personally think that "Davney" is a prettier name than "Daphne". As "Daffy" is the ultimate nickname for "Daphne", which always seemed unfortunate to me.
