Ronan is from Ireland 3 B.C.-1175 and means "little seal". Maybe Ronin is a varient. Info from: Names through the Ages by Teresa Norman.

In medieval Japan a ronin was a samurai that had no master. Ronins were looked down on by "regular" samurais, because Bushido (the code of honor) mandated that a samurai should be, among other things, loyal to his master. Thus being a ronin was a disgrace.
Or Ronin might be a variant of Ronan.
