Re: The Origin of True (Surname)
According to surname lexicographers Patrick Hanks and Flavia Hodges, "True" is an English surname, common especially in the Midlands. A nickname for a trustworthy man, from the Middle English word "trew" or "trewe" meaning "faithful", "steadfast", which in turn comes from the Old English word "treowe".-- Nanaea
