Actually back in the 19th century I believe this name was usually pronounced "sta-TYE-ruh" in the USA. It was the name the Persian princess who became one of Alexander the Great's wives. Of course the common pronunciation 200 years ago may not be the same as how scholars of ancient Greek or Persian pronounce it today.
