Re: Origin and meaning of Lucelia
Lucélia is the feminine form of Lucélio, a derivated form from Lúcio, the Portuguese form of Lucius, a Roman name from obscure etymology, because it seems an Etruscan name but it has been usually related (very probably by folk etymology) to the Latin lux, lucis, "light".There are the variant Lucílio, Lucília and the related name Luciliano, Luciliana. In Brazil, Lucélia is sometimes used as contracted form of Luz Célia, but this is a posterior added use to the name.Coincidentaly, in Brazil there is a town called Lucélia, but the origin of this place name is not related to the name Lucélia, but to city founder's family. The town was founded in 1939 by Luiz Ferraz de Mesquita, who made up the name to conserve the memory of his name and his wife's name: Luiz + Cecília + ending -lia.
