I have a Polish friend with this nickname---her relatives from the old country pronounce the name ming-KAH. Of course, they may have adopted a local pronunciation (upstate NY).

I agree that they would have adopted the pron. A native speaking Pole, in Poland, would say meen-ka. I'm fluent and I've lived in Poland for about 5 years.
