Article on top names in Ireland in 2006

Interesting to see that both Aoibheann and Aoibhinn (which I assume must be alternative spellings of the same name) entered the top 100 for girls in Ireland in 2006. Anyone from Ireland know why this name is suddenly popular there?

Interesting article! Seems that Irish parents are less influenced by celebrity names than English ones- I've met young children named Britney, Paris and Lindsay over here!
I'd imagine that part of the sudden usage of Aoibheann and Aiobhinn might be attributed to a rise in popularity of names like Evie/Evelyn in the UK as a whole. Perhaps parents are looking for a name which sounds similar to these popular options, but is also a bit more unusual?
