Hi shangrila_la,

Aleydis is a form of Adelheid (English form: Adelaide). When Adelheit got latinized, it became Adalheidis, and the contracted form is Aleidis (variant spelling: Aleydis).

It could have happened the other way round as well: Aleid is a Low German short form of Adelheid. The latinized form of Aleid is Aleidis (variant spelling: Aleydis).

The German pronunciation is: ah-LIE-dis.
