Probably from the Sanskrit root shubh/shumbh, to beautify (often beautify oneself)/shine, prepare (often prepare oneself), purify/kill, one gets shobhana: beautiful. In many north Indian languages today this has given rise to sohan or shohan. (There is also a Sanskrit root suh to gladden related to sah to prevail but I think that is unrelated).
