"Lyndye" for Lydia
I'm currently researching the life of a man buried in my local graveyard, who died in 1912. He had a relative who was living nearby, and her name was Lyndye, which - we've discovered after searching lots of censuses and records - was short for her given name Lydia. I have never heard of this shortening before, and wondered if it was particular to any region or country. It would be nice if we could get any leads on her background, and I thought her unusual name might be a clue. If anybody has any ideas about this unusual pet name and spelling, it would be so much appreciated!
nb - she was born in the city of Bristol, England, in 1869.
