Re: Kerani
in reply to a message by Lumia
I tried to google for any Indian female by that name, and was not smart enough to get manageable results. It would help if you could point me to a real Kerani or have any related informatio, e.g., full name.Kerani is a common Sanskrit origin term for a clerk, and means, I believe, some ritual kind of bell in the Toda, a language of the Dravidian family. Their was also a Karrani dynasty of Afghan origin Muslim kings in Bengal, and I do not know how they get their name. But I do not know if any first name is associated with any of this. The nearest name somewhat common in North India that immediately comes to mind is kiran, of Sanskrit origin meaning ray of light, but that is pretty far.

The query about Kerani has appeared in a Spanish board (a mother-to-be who wants to name her daughter Kerani) and I was not able to find Kerani in a reliable source; I suspect that Kerani is one of those Indian words presented as Indian first names in baby websites. Thanks for your help.
