Einon?
That was the name of the evil king Einon, in the movie "Dragonheart", I watched last night. It looks and sounds interesting. I suppose that it's Scottish. since I think the movie takes place in middleage Scotland.I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it?

Thank you, both of you.So it is from Wales? There is a long way from there to Scotland.I guess that I was fooled about the Scottish relation, which is a bit understandable, since the one lending his voice to the dragon, Draco, in the movie is Sean Connery. And as you probably know, he is Scottish.Lora: Thanks for the link. *Bookmarked for further perusal*:-)

It's a long time since I saw the film but Hollywood directors aren't always that careful about checking facts and I would guess it was just supposed to have a general medieval feel to it rather than specifically Scottish or even Celtic.
Wales may be at the opposite end of the country but Welsh and Gaelic are both Celtic languages and have a common root. (Welsh is what's called 'P' Celtic, whereas Gaelic is 'Q' Celtic).

I looked it up on Wikipedia and it says, that the movie takes place (I copy and pasted here) in England, A.D. 932. I don't know what happened then in English history, as well as how the inviroment were, since I'm Danish and only knows to the history/inviroment around here at that time. I trust you with the language knowledge, since you're where you probably have it, or some branch of it, all around you. Clicked into your profile and saw where you live. Thanks again for all the help. I appriciate it. :-)

according to this site it means anvil. http://www.amlwchhistory.co.uk/data/welshsurnamemeanings.htm (It's listed under Eynon.)
It seems to have been the name of a 10thc Welsh prince who died at the place now called Gorseinon.

It's Welsh, sometimes spelt Eynon, leads to the surname Beynon (fromab Einon, meaning son of Einon)
