"Delaphan"
"Delephan" appears as the name of a distant cousin on several US census records ca. 1870-1880. Delaphan is listed as the son of two Irish Immigrants. I find no reference to the name Delaphan anywhere else and on future census records this male individual is shown as "Charles". Any help out there on the origin of "Delaphan"?

A quick Google......suggests that the name is an Irish surname. It's got to be pretty rare though - I've never come across it in books. It looks and sounds more French. I suggest you try a listing of place names in France, Ireland and the UK.
