Adhyan, Adhyanth
I came across the names Adhyan and Adhyanth (both of the male gender) in my search for names yesterday, but unfortunately the meanings were not provided. Does anyone know the meaning and origin of these names? I am not sure of the origin, but I guess they are Indian and have a basis in Sanskrit.
Thanks in advance for the help- Sarada

Seems to me that Adhyan (AdhyAna, with the last a dropped in pronounciation: आध्यान in the Devnagari script) is used in mArAthi as a name. I do not know its origin, but there is a Sanskrit word of that spelling. The particle A is a very common prefix and signifies concepts like near, to, from, totally, etc. dhyai means to think deeply or contemplate sorrowfully or let the head droop etc., and may be related to dhA/dhi to hold or establish. From this AdhyAna means to meditate upon, regretfully remember, or pensively recollect. I guess the name stems from that meditation aspect.Where did you find Adhyanth? Any idea which region of India it is from or what its spelling in any Brahmi derived script might be?
