Fillers aren't necessarily short in my book, though many of them are. I would count Elizabeth as a filler too. They're a common name that is used only for its sound and rhythm, to fill in the space between the first name and last name. Here's a great article on middle names: http://namenerds.com/uucn/advice/middle.html

The best way I can describe a “filler” is a name that parents usually choose when they're at a loss of what to give their child as a middle name, so instead of giving the child a meaningful middle name they give it something short and simple. Examples of this are Ann, Lynn, and Rose.

Exactly what I would have said. Also Marie, Joy, Grace, Lee, James, and Michael.
