Lothrop --- meaning?
This is a male name, though I'm not entirely sure of the origin. English, I believe. I saw it on an 1800s gravestone with the surname Holmes. Can anyone tell me more about Lothrop? Especially the meaning, if possible. Many thanks :)

I would assume it's a borrowing from the surname Lothrop, which according to Ancestry.com (generally well-regarded around here), is a "habitational name from Lowthorpe in East Yorkshire, named with the Old Norse personal name Logi or Lági + þorp ‘outlying farmstead’." http://www.ancestry.com/facts/Lothrop-places-origin.ashxArray
