Re: Meaning of a Name
See the other thread for adhIsha. For kiraNa, the Sanskrit root kRR (the RR stands for long vocalic r) (with cognates in Greek) means to scatter or pour out. kiraNa originally meant very fine dust, but the meaning soon developed to a ray of light (also rarely and metaphorically to thread and rein). This meaning (ray of light) will be the only one currently understood today.
