Shayndel
It's a pet form of Shayna, Yiddish for beautiful. Other versions are Sheindel, Shaindel.
Here's a definition which thinks it's a feminine form of John - they must have thought "John - Shane - Shayndel!" It was often transformed into Jeanette in English -speaking countries but it's definitely not derived from John. Yet another reason why many baby name books and sites are not to be trusted! (And why I love this site!)
Shayndel
Meaning Gracious gift of God.
Biblical context Origin - Hebrew.
John the Baptist was the son of Zachariah and Elizabeth. He baptized Jesus Christ in the river Jordan. John the evangelist was one of the twelve disciples of Jesus Christ.
[GROANS]
Now, I wonder what would please her,
Charlotte, Julia, or Louisa?
Ann and Mary, they're too common;
Joan's too formal for a woman;
Jane's a prettier name beside;
But we had a Jane that died.
They would say, if 'twas Rebecca,
That she was a little Quaker.
From poem [1809] by Charles Lamb
