Tithonus is the Latinized form of Tithonos from Greek Mythology.
This lists a possible meaning and the only one I've come across:

So Tithonos has nothing to do with grasshoppers, then? I've always wondered, because so often there's a pun, often a name pun, at the root of the transformation stories. Interesting! (Can't think of any examples right now, of course: Sod's Law kicking in as usual.)
