Hi Morgain,

Bode is a German name which derive from an Old Saxon word "bodo" = ruler. Later it was associated with the Old German word "boto" = messenger, envoy.

Bode is used as a surname in Germany as well.

The form Bodo is more common for a first name in Germany than Bode.

Concerning the pronunciation you can listen to the modern German word "Bote" here and just replace the t with a d:

(You just have to click on the black P in the yellow circle beside the word "der Bote" to listen to the pronunciation)

I hope the link will work as it is quite long...
