Sorry for the lateness, I've been out of town at the ANS convention.
It seems from my Googling that this name is spelled Hawerchuk, not Hawerchuck. According to a couple of sites, the hockey player Dale Hawerchuk is of Ukrainian ancestry, so I would assume that Hawerchuk is a Ukrainian surname originally.
According to Hanks & Hodges' A Dictionary of Surnames, -uk is a common diminutive ending in Ukrainian names. But I am not sure if that suffix is really involved in Hawerchuk.

Thank you for your comments. Although girls had been named Jaslyn earlier than 1974, Jaslyn is still a rather rare name. How the name came about in the earlier days, I don't know as I had never seen one before the late 80s. So I will settle for this meaning which means fair, little, sweet and joyful: root of it? I crossed it between Jasmine the little, white sweet fragrant flower with Carolyn giving it the joyous hint of Christmas carols!
You seem to have strong knowledge in this area of names and its original! Are you a professor in some Uni somewhere?
