My girlfriend and I were just browsing a French names site for a name for our third child, and I stumbled across Aldegonde, which I had vaguely heard before but she hadn't. It's not posted on BtN, and we were wondering if anyone knows what it means and where it's originally from? Thanks!

It's a Germanic name (so it would be roughly from Germany or the Netherlands) and it most likely comes from Adelgonde. Adelgonde means "noble" (Adel-) and "war" (-gonde), so it would mean "noble warrior/fighter" combined.

I'm not sure it's a 100% reliable but according to meilleursprénoms.com Aldegonde is of german origin and includes two elements meaning noble and war.
