Re: Interesting article link
This is what happens when politics and religion dictate rules for names! I cant help but chuckle at the idea of some pichforked (?) angel pestering Ariel sharon for his transgressions ;)
I'd like to also point out that the Greek orthodox church was very uptight about (and actively discouraged) naming children with classical Greek names that have no associated saints. My daughter's name (Nephele) has raised the eyebrow of many a priest during the past few years. In face the face of public pressure, the church now "allows" non-Christian names, but draws the line on two: Nero (a somewhat misunderstood historical personality, if you ask me!) and Diokletian :)

Is there any chance that the GOC might loosen up a bit? As the French have ... with startling results sometimes, like numerous little French girls being named Oceane (can't do diacritals on the Web) of all things. I'm sure they'd never have been allowed to do that under the old rules. And I'd be amazed if there's a St Kreon ... come to think of it, my buddy always complains that she "had" to give her son that name for family reasons, but perhaps it's also a religious issue, she being rather more devout than her husband.Yeah, those bossy angels are a puzzle! Why not tackle the souls of Sharon's parents, since they upped and named him Ariel in the first place? Ain't no justice in the putative hereafter!

Here is a short compendium of some of the wackiest, Greek names that have Saints associated with them (and therefore quite kosher with the GOC):Hermaphroditos
Parallelos
Satyros
Euthanasia
AphrodisiosIf I ever had quintuplets...
