I was introduced to the name Arlenis because of the fashion model Arlenis Sosa Pena, from the Dominican Republic. I just thought her name was so beautiful, feminine yet strong at the same time. Does anyone have any information on the history/background of Arlenis?

This is probably simply the English name Arlene altered by adding the suffix -is. -is and -ys are very productive suffixes in the creation of new female names in Latin America, especially in the Spanish speaking Caribbean countries.

Compare forms like Yanelis, Aracelis, Dianys, Idalys, Yarelis, etc.
