Re: How is "Ruarc" pronounced?
Irish Names by Donnchadh O Corrain & Fidelma Maguire says that Ruarc is pronounced "rûark", with the "u" pronounced as in "rude" and the "a" pronounced as in "law". The fact that they don't separate this into syllables, however, makes me think that perhaps the vowel in Gaelic is a dipthong merging those two sounds which would be very hard to reproduce in English.
